Ha yeah, see what he means, modern buildings can be terrible looking things!
Melbourne seems to have some of the ugliest buildings in the country. It is wealthier than Sydney, but it's always the poor sister when it comes to public places. I remember the 2000 new year celebrations. Sydney had a spectacular and amazing parade of exquisite boats and lights. Melbourne had some tugs with plastic blow-up creatures that represented the things that crept about in the Yarra river. One that was tied to the top of a boat looked like a giant slug, and one of the TV commentators kept calling it the slug boat. He was a stand up comedian, and some of his comments were screamingly funny. Later there was outrage from the Melbourne citizens about it all, and he had to apologise. But it was pretty pathetic for a public display by a major city. Melbourne quite fancies itself as arty, and they spend millions on these hideous buildings.
