I have decided to settle for peanut butter on toast. It is delicious, and even though it's late, I'm having four slices. The bread is a bit little anyway. It's substandard bread. I have yet to buy a nice loaf of bread in this town. However, during the floods, and for a while after, you couldn't buy bread anywhere, so I am grateful I can at least buy it now. MMMM...peanut butter...
When I was about 6 yrs old, our cat decided to have kittens somewhere outside. We couldn't see where she had hidden the kittens, so my mother told me to follow her, as she seemed to be going into the next yard - a vacant lot. I followed her, and walked - barefoot - into a huge patch of stinging nettles. I screamed with the pain. My sister had to try to get me out. They were picking hairlike stingers out of me for days. I can still remember the pain. It was agony. Now they might not have been the type that people eat, but I'd prefer to pass. I do like prickly pear fruit, and they have to have the fine spines - like hairs - scraped off them before you can handle them. Haven't had one of those for a few years now.
Zactly,,who wants nettles, Yeah i seen a prickly pear, baloo was eating one in jungle book!
@498: we want pictures of the bite marks and the grubs
I showed you the bites. If you was lookin' away at the time, it can't be helped. I have had them stitched now, an' they are under a sterile dressing. I can't possibly show anyone. The grubs refused to pose for the camera. They threatened to bite me again if I didn't put it away. I had no choice.
Prickly pears are not native here, but they were brought in to Australia, and became a nightmare for farmers. The problem appears to be under control now, although I have seen a few here and there.
How can they become a problem, jusss eat um all, good four your guts they is!!
Well, it's only the fruit that is okay. The rest of the plant is a mean-looking cactus, covered in hurty bits. And because nothing here actually ate them, they were in cactus paradise, and they went forth and multiplied.
