My question is: Which is the best software for raw editing?

PhotoShop CS4 has the most advanced features I know of and is the standard of the industry.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm starting right now with raw files... finally i've got a dslr cam and must learn almost all, but trying and happy.

It's all a matter of ambition and budget of course. I haven't tried the free software alternatives but I'm quite happy with Photoshop Elements. For that money you get alot. RAW file handling is ok. You can do basic manipulation in 16bit/color resolution (color, light, sharpness etc) before entering the regular editor.
