Image Size

1. xymonau17 January 2010, 10:43 GMT +00:00

I can't seem to find the lower dimensions for images. I just tried to upload a 600 by 800 image and the thing just closed on me and jumped to an empty upload screen.

minimum size is 1000pixels in width or height. We need to have some explaining texts at the upload page. One of the many things on the to do list.

So the shorter side must be at least 1000 pixels?

4. xymonau17 January 2010, 22:39 GMT +00:00

Macie, I think as long as the minimum size of one side is at least 1000 it's okay. The image I finally posted - my most recent abstract - is shorter than that on one side: 1000 by 750.

Hmm, I tried to upload image with similar dimensions (1000 x 700) yesterday and no success.

@3, yes, the shorter side must be at least 1000 pixels.
You think that is to big?

7. xymonau18 January 2010, 13:27 GMT +01:00

I think for the web they could be smaller. And sxc accepts smaller images, so I guess we just had to know this.

8. macieklew18 January 2010, 13:31 GMT +01:00

Could be smaller, but it's not a big problem for me.

9. xymonau18 January 2010, 13:32 GMT +01:00

Wierd! I posted - but lost the post. Typed another one, hit send, and the first came up on the screen, and the second has gone!

10. xymonau18 January 2010, 13:33 GMT +01:00

But I copied the second becaue I lost the first, so here it is:
I checked my image and the larger side was 1000 (you can see it in my gallery - the most recent image (if I don't upload something tonight), so that size definitely worked.

Jay, sxc accepted smaller images, so I guess it's just that we're used to being able to upload them. I think they're good for websites. But it's okay if you want larger images. We just needed to know.

I see a new photo went through at 900 x 675 pixels.

I haven't heard the official word but I would dare say that the minimum has been lowered.

Well, I cannot upload a picture with shorter size over 1000 pixels. I think it should be reduced. I have some long, but thin isolated objects... And I won't be able to upload them (or I'll upload them with a lot of white background).

13. crisderaud21 January 2010, 22:09 GMT +01:00

How many pixels are the short side of your thin images Michal? We need an idea of how small you want to go.

14. mzacha21 January 2010, 22:30 GMT +01:00

For example -> 750 or 819 :). But I can imagine a pencil... long and very very thin ;).

We have smaller sizes in our database accepted when submitted through the sxc import tool. It would be too discouraging to reject those files.

I would be happy with an appr. 600x800 pixel size. I won't have to re-size my originals again that way for RGBStock.com.

Larger files can always be requested when available.
